LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Quarryville firefighters are doubling down on safety after a hunter fell from a tree stand Wednesday afternoon in Eden Township.
The fire company was called around 2:02 p.m. to assist EMS in a wooded area near the 200 block of Groff Road, where a victim’s ladder broke while fixing a tree stand, leading to the victim falling from around 12 feet.
Firefighters came in with a chainsaw to help widen a path for a UTV to transport the victim to the roadway.
Afterwards, the fire company took to Facebook to urge hunters to check their stands and replace any hardware or straps before using it. Hunters are also encouraged to make sure someone knows roughly where you’ll be hunting in case something unexpected were to occur.
Fall protection is also encouraged, the fire company said.
