READING, Pa. – Volunteers at a local church spent Veterans Day feeding the homeless.

Zion Baptist Church said it sees both veterans in need and veterans looking to serve others.

The church offers free meals every Tuesday to those experiencing homelessness, and says it’s seen an uptick in visitors since the federal government shutdown.

Still, the church’s pastor says their efforts go past politics.

‘We don’t get caught up in the Congress or the courts,” said Pastor Bruce Alick. “We serve Christ, and so, therefore, we are going to serve regardless.”

He says the church also provides clothes, winter jackets and even toys for children.
