An 59-year-old Reading man has been charged with repeatedly stealing shrimp from a Wyomissing grocery store, thefts that total nearly $2,000.
Jaime Torres-Dominguez of the 700 block of Franklin Street is accused of a string of 10 thefts that date to December 2024.
He was arraigned Monday before District Judge Priscilla Campos on retail theft and receiving stolen property charges. He was placed in Berks County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.
According to court documents:
All of the retail thefts took place at the Redner’s Market in the 1100 block of Berkshire Boulevard.
The earliest incident occurred Dec. 11, 2024, and the most recent on Sept. 7.
Each occurred similarly, with Torres-Dominguez entering the store, heading to the seafood section and selecting bags of frozen shrimp. He then hides the shrimp in a backpack and leaves without paying.
During each incident, Torres-Dominguez stole five to 12 bags of shrimp. In the Sept. 7 incident, he also stole an undisclosed number of steaks.
In total, Torres-Dominguez stole at least 78 bags of frozen shrimp with a total value of about $1,962.
Torres-Dominguez was captured on store video surveillance cameras during several of his thefts, and when confronted by police following a Feb. 28 incident admitted to stealing seafood.
