WYOMISSING, Pa. — The Penn State Berks Office of International Student Services, in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs and the Global Studies degree program, will celebrate International Education Week from Nov. 17 to 21. This year’s theme is “One World, Many Voices.” There are events for students, faculty and staff that celebrate education abroad, global studies, international students, cultural traditions and Friendsgiving.

Monday, Nov. 17, 12:15–1:15 p.m., Perkins Student Center Lion’s Den

The college will hold “International Day,” an opportunity for members of the campus community to share their culture by hosting a table with traditional items, information, music, and games. The event will include food and activities.

Tuesday, Nov. 18, 5:30–7 p.m., Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room

Students are invited to enjoy “Friendsgiving,” a traditional Thanksgiving dinner which also includes cultural foods typically served during major holidays around the world. The event includes information about traditional holidays around the world.

Wednesday, Nov. 19, 12:15–1:15 p.m., Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building, Room 120

Students are invited to an Education Abroad Workshop to learn about study abroad opportunities.  Two representatives from Penn State’s Global Education Abroad Office will join to provide students with information on scholarships and financial aid.  Pizza and refreshments will be available.

Wednesday, Nov. 19, 12:15–1:15 p.m., Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building, Room 204

An Acirema Workshop (America spelled backwards) will be held for faculty and staff to provide an opportunity to learn about the difficulties and strict immigration procedures that international students must complete before their arrival at the college.

In addition, from Nov. 1 to 12, students had the opportunity to enter three different photo contests. The “Home Away from Home” contest asked for photos in one of three categories: a place, moment or feeling that captures what makes Penn State Berks feel like home. “Life Abroad” asked students to share a photo from a trip or event outside the United States. “Cultural Perspective,” asked students to share a photo that captures the vibrant cultures they are a part of or have experienced. Winners will receive Amazon gift cards.
