SHILLINGTON, Pa. – Police in Shillington are investigating a bizarre shooting incident involving a dog.

Just after 11 p.m. yesterday, police were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of State Street for a report of a shooting.

Officers arriving on scene located a 53-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his back.

According to investigators, the man told police he was cleaning a shotgun and had placed the firearm down on his bed.

When the man sat down on the bed, one of his dogs jumped up onto it, allegedly causing the shotgun to discharge and strike him in the lower back.

The man was transported to Reading Hospital for treatment and had to undergo surgery for his injuries. His condition is unknown at this time.

The incident remains under investigation.
