US Senator John Fetterman has been hospitalized after suffering a serious cardiac episode on Thursday morning. According to his spokesperson, Fetterman “sustained a fall near his home in Braddock” during an early morning walk and was transported to a hospital in Pittsburgh “out of an abundance of caution.”
Doctors determined that the Pennsylvania Democrat had experienced a ventricular fibrillation (VF) flare-up, a life-threatening condition in which the heart’s lower chambers beat chaotically instead of pumping blood properly, potentially leading to sudden cardiac arrest if not treated immediately.
Fetterman became light-headed before collapsing and sustaining minor facial injuries. He later joked, “If you thought my face looked bad before, wait until you see it now!”
His spokesperson said the senator “is doing well and receiving routine observation” as doctors work to fine-tune his medication regimen. Fetterman expressed gratitude to the EMTs, doctors, and nurses providing his care.
