Levee trail needs work

Editor: The Luzerne County Levee Trail, one of the area’s most popular recreational bike paths, is showing serious signs of deterioration. Large cracks and widening expansion joint separations now run across long stretches of the pavement. These structural failures don’t just create an unpleasant riding experience — they threaten the long-term integrity of the entire surface. Cyclists and walkers report that hitting or tripping over these large gaps, especially by the Forty Fort airport, feels like riding over a washboard causing discomfort and, in some cases, sudden jolts that could lead to accidents.

What was once a smooth, scenic route for exercise  has become a frustrating riding course. Without timely repairs, the damage will continue to spread, eventually requiring more extensive — and more expensive — reconstruction. Local residents are calling for immediate action to repair the pavement cracks and restore its safety and riding accessibility. Investing in repairs now will protect this valuable community resource for years to come.
