ONTELAUNEE TWP., Pa. – Berks County is shining a spotlight on a variety of jobs in the agriculture industry.
The county hosted the 14th “Agriculture and Natural Resources Job Fair” on Thursday.
High school and college students and community members stopped by the Leesport Farmers Market in Ontelaunee Township to meet potential employers. The event aims to show people that there are a lot of jobs in the agricultural industry beyond farming.
“This is a good opportunity to bring employers together to talk to students and familiarize them with different career paths that maybe they wouldn’t think of, connect them with internships, job shadowing resources, and if they’re not looking to go to college or trade school maybe give them an opportunity to get a job right away,” said Amanda Burkard-Sell, deputy director, Berks County Department of Agriculture.
Officials say agriculture brings in more than a billion dollars for the county’s economy.
