EASTON, Pa. – Stacey Jackson and a team of volunteers are on an all-night mission in Easton’s Scott Park.
“I always thought that God gave me two hands. One for myself and one for someone else,” said Jackson.
It is the first-ever Breaking Day.
Jackson and her team are helping anyone with nowhere to call home.
“It’s kind of like giving up my bed for one night to make myself uncomfortable to make other people comfortable,” said Jackson.
She is handing out everything from meals to free hygiene and self care bags.
“It’s going to get cold out really, really soon. Even tonight it’s raining, so we have tents, we have heaters,” said Jackson.
There are also movies for people to enjoy.
“The first time I did it was in North Carolina and it was successful and I said maybe we can go from city to city and I live here in Easton and I said you know what, we’re going to do it here,” said Jackson.
Jackson said she is starting see younger people experience homelessness and she would like more shelters to be built in the area.
“And my thoughts are how are they homeless? How is a teenager homeless? But we live in a different day in age. We don’t know the reasons, we don’t know the reasons why,” said Jackson.
One thing she said she and her team certainly know is how they can offer a helping hand on this night.
“Whoever walks these streets from tonight to tomorrow morning, we plan to keep them warm, keep them happy,” said Jackson.
