Blustery Steelers Sunday for western PA
Feeling like the upper 30s with winds whipping between 30 and 35 mph.
EXACTLY A QUARTER AFTER NINE ON THIS SUNDAY MORNING. NICE TO HAVE YOU WITH US. METEOROLOGIST JILL SZWED REJOINING US HERE WITH A LOOK AT THE CERTIFIED MOST ACCURATE FORECAST AND THE FORECAST OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS, REMINDING US THAT WINTER ISN’T TOO FAR AWAY. ONCE AGAIN, AS THAT CHILLY AIR CONTINUES TO BLOW IN ACROSS THE REGION, THAT’S GOING TO BE THE CASE FOR US TODAY, MONDAY AND TUESDAY WHEN THOUGH THE STRONGEST FOR US AS WE WORK THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON, WE’LL BE BREAKING DOWN THOSE WIND GUSTS HERE IN JUST A SECOND. EVENTUALLY, THOUGH, WE WILL BRING BACK SOME MILDER TEMPERATURES TOWARDS THE SECOND HALF OF THE WEEK. WINDS ARE ALREADY ELEVATED HERE THIS MORNING. IN FACT, THEY’VE BEEN PRETTY BLUSTERY AS WE’VE BEEN MOVING THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. NOW HERE, AS YOU’RE WAKING UP ON A SUNDAY MORNING, WE’RE GOING TO STOP HERE ABOUT 130 THIS AFTERNOON. YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THOSE GUSTS ALREADY PEAKING ABOVE 30, EVEN PUSHING 35MPH COULD BE A LITTLE BIT STRONGER OVER INTO THE RIDGES. WINDS. IT REALLY CALM DOWN TONIGHT OR EVEN THROUGHOUT THE DAY TOMORROW, BUT IT WILL BE NOT QUITE AS STRONG. SO CERTAINLY SOME GOOD NEWS. BUT AGAIN, JUST SOMETHING TO KEEP IN MIND AS WE LOOK TOWARDS THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. WE MAY HEAR A LITTLE RUSTLING OUTSIDE YOUR WINDOW BREAKING DOWN THE STEELERS SUNDAY. THE WIND OBVIOUSLY GOING TO BE A FACTOR, SO MAYBE MORE RUNNING THAN PASSING PLAYS. AND OBVIOUSLY WE’LL BE WATCHING THE FIELD GOAL KICKERS AS WELL. BETWEEN THE STEELERS AND THE BENGALS A LITTLE LATER ON TODAY. KICK OFF AT 1:00. TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE MID 40S, BUT WHEN YOU FACTOR IN THE WIND FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES THROUGHOUT THE GAME. ONLY IN THE MID TO UPPER 30S SUNSHINE. NOT REALLY HELPING OUT SOME OF THOSE FANS THAT SIT IN THE BRIGHTER SPOTS OF ACRISURE STADIUM. CERTAINLY FEELING LIKE A WINTER DAY THERE AT THE NORTH SHORE AS WE GO THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON. NOT MUCH OF A WARM-UP FOR YOUR MONDAY INTO TUESDAY. STILL, AS WE’RE GOING TO HANG ON TO HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 40S WILL BE WEDNESDAY SECOND HALF OF THE WEEK THAT WE TREND A LITTLE BIT MILDER. SWITCHING OVER. SATELLITE AND RADAR A FEW LITTLE SPRINKLES STARTING TO SHOW UP THERE REALLY. FOLLOWING THE TURNPIKE COMING OUT OF LAWRENCE, BEAVER AND NOW NORTHERN PARTS OF ALLEGHENY COUNTY GETTING CLOSER TO WEXFORD, PINE TOWNSHIP, EVEN AROUND HAMPTON AS WELL. BUT THE BULK OF THE ACTIVITY UP ALONG I-80. AND IT’S NOT JUST SOME RAINDROPS, BUT ALSO SOME SNOWFLAKES THAT COULD BE MIXING IN THROUGHOUT THE DAY. WE’VE SEEN AN UPGRADE TO THE WINTER WEATHER ALERTS. NOW, A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING AND FORREST COUNTY. MEANWHILE, CLARION VENANGO ALSO AS WE HEAD UP TOWARDS CRAWFORD COUNTY INCLUDE A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY THAT WILL KICK IN AT 10:00 THIS MORNING, RUN THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY TOMORROW AS, OF COURSE, THAT TYPICAL SNOW BELT UP ALONG I-80 COULD SEE SOME ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATIONS OVER THE NEXT DAY OR SO. THAT MISSES MOST OF WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. WE’RE JUST GETTING THE CLOUDS OUT OF THAT SETUP AGAIN. A FEW PASSING SPRINKLES CAN’T BE RULED OUT, ESPECIALLY WORKING ALONG THE TURNPIKE. AS WE LOOK FROM NEWCASTLE TOWARDS CRANBERRY, MONROEVILLE, EVEN GREENSBURG AS WELL AS WE HEAD MIDDAY. BUT THOSE LAKE EFFECT SNOW BANDS WILL BE FAIRLY PERSISTENT AS WE GO THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. PARTS OF FOREST COUNTY COULD BE PICKING UP MORE THAN A HALF A FOOT OF SNOW. OBVIOUSLY, TRAVEL CONDITIONS COULD DETERIORATE, ESPECIALLY AS WE GO THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS, SO SOMETHING TO BE MINDFUL OF IF YOU’RE TRAVELING ALONG I-80. BUT FOR THE MOST PART, NO SNOW FOR THE REST OF WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. IT’S JUST THE CHILL IN THE CLOUDS WILL BE HANGING ON. UPPER SYSTEM GETS HERE ON TUESDAY. IT’S COMING FROM THE SOUTH. COULD BRING US SOME VERY ISOLATED LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS, ESPECIALLY TUESDAY AFTERNOON FROM I-70 POINTS SOUTHWARD. MOST OF THE RAIN THOUGH, BACK INTO WEST VIRGINIA. THEN WE DRY THINGS OUT, START TO TREND A LITTLE BIT MILDER WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. YOUR 4-DAY PLUS 4 MORE FORECAST. ANOTHER SYSTEM WILL BE THE THIRD OF THE WEEK. GETS HERE THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY. FRIDAY, MORE THAN LIKELY THE WETTEST DAY OF THE UPCOMING WEEK. ALSO THE WARMEST ONE TWO WITH A HIGH OF 60. AND IF THE TIMING HOLDS, MOST OF THOSE SHOWERS WILL BE OUT OF HERE BY SATURDAY MORNING. LOOKING MUCH BETTER FOR THE WPIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT ACRISURE STADIUM. AND OBVIOUSLY THAT LATE AT NIGHT AS WELL NEXT SATURDAY EVENING. HEY, WE CAN HANDLE THOSE 50S MID 50S THIS TIME OF YEAR
