Wyomissing’s annual Lighting of the Greens & Holiday Marketplace takes place Dec. 6 from 2 to 5 p.m. on the Stone House lawn and pond area. Rain date is Dec. 7.

The free, family-friendly includes performances from the Wyomissing Band, festive music from a DJ and seasonal treats. The Holiday Marketplace will feature local artisans and vendors with handmade gifts, crafts and décor.

Inside the Stone House, families can visit Santa Claus. The lighting of the greens takes place at 5 p.m.

Ski club

The Flying Dutchmen Ski Club’s Winter Sports Night will be held Nov. 20, at the Reading Liederkranz heated pavilion and beer garden, 143 Spook Lane, Lower Alsace Township. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.

Attendees can meet representatives of local ski resorts, equipment vendors and winter sports retailers, explore trip opportunities and enjoy Liederkranz food and beverages.

The Flying Dutchmen Ski Club is a four-season outdoor recreation club that also offers hiking, biking, kayaking and social events. Winter Sports Night serves as a community celebration and an open invitation for new members to join and get involved.

Jewish Film Series

The Jewish Federation of Reading/Berks has announced the lineup for this season’s Reading Jewish Film Series.

The series opens Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. with the comedy “Bad Shabbos” in the Boscov Theater at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, 201 Washington St., Reading. The film’s director, Daniel Robbins, will speak after the screening.

Other films in the series are the documentary “Charles Grodin: Rebel with a Cause” Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.; the Holocaust documentary “Among Neighbors” Jan. 13 at 7 p.m.; and the thriller “Shoshana” Feb. 17 at 7, all at the GoggleWorks.

Tickets for “Bad Shabbos” are $20 and $18 for seniors and students. Tickets for other films in the series are $10 or $8 for the discounted rate. Tickets are available at goggleworks.org/boscov-theater/#films.

History program

The Berks County Genealogical Society meets Nov 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the society library on the fourth floor of the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, 201 Washington St., Reading.

Guest speaker Corrie Crupi will discuss the history of Reading’s Pagoda and fire tower and the Gravity Railroad. Doors open at 6. The public is welcome, and admission is free.

Church anniversary

Advent Lutheran Church, 16 Telford Ave., West Lawn, celebrates its 100th anniversary with an event on Sunday, Nov . 23., starting at 9:45 a.m. there will be an extended prelude with a brass ensemble, handbell choir, adult choir and piano-organ duet. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Thomas F. Irwin Jr., pastor. and assisted by previous Advent pastors the Rev. William B. Fryer and the Rev. Wayne A. Heintzelman.

The liturgy for the service will come from the Common Service Book and Hymnal, published in 1917 and widely used by Lutheran churches when Advent was founded. There will be refreshments and fellowship in Memorial Hall following the service.

Holiday sale

A holiday sale will be held Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Exeter Community Library, 4569 Prestwick Drive, Exeter Township.

Presented by Friends of the Exeter Community Library, the event includes homemade cookies along with books, games, puzzles, jewelry and more.

Poinsettia sale

Friends of Mifflin Community Library is holding a poinsettia sale with 6-inch pots of red, white and Jingle Bells (red and white) for $10 each. Christmas bazaars

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 548 Old Swede Road, Amity Township, will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be wreaths and cemetery boxes made with fresh greens along with homemade pies, cookies, apple dumplings and candy, chow chow, crafts, a raffle, a flute recital, attic treasures and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
