The Lackawanna County Emergency Management Agency and city of Scranton declared a Code Blue weather alert from 8 p.m. Monday through 7 a.m. Tuesday.
A Code Blue is issued during extreme cold, triggering a plan to help vulnerable populations, especially the homeless. The National Weather Service predicts low temperatures will drop to 22 degrees Monday night, when factoring in the forecasted wind chill, county officials said.
During a Code Blue alert, homeless individuals can access emergency shelter at St. Anthony’s Haven, 409 Olive St., Scranton, open 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.; and the Community Intervention Center, 445 N. Sixth Ave., Scranton, open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and potentially later if the need arises.
