A man is now facing charges one month after a fatal shooting in Pittsburgh’s South Side. According to a criminal complaint, Pittsburgh police officers were patrolling the 1200 block of East Carson Street on foot just after 10 p.m. on October 12 when they heard a single gunshot. Officers noticed a white sedan traveling at a high rate of speed as they were working to determine where the gunshot was fired. The complaint said officers then found Steven Robertson lying on the ground with a single gunshot wound to his neck. He was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. During the course of the investigation, the complaint said it was determined that the ShotSpotter activation was missed, and officials were not notified right away of an alert of a shooting in the area. Police later returned to the area where the shooting occurred and obtained surveillance video from multiple businesses. Videos showed the suspect leaving a bar and walking towards a 2012 Chrysler 300 parked in front of 1214 East Carson Street at 10:03 p.m., the complaint said. Five minutes later, the victim was seen walking from the parking lot across the street towards the suspect’s vehicle. As Robertson approached, the suspect shot him and drove off. The complaint said the video showed officers on foot in the area near where the shooting occurred. Authorities say they later identified Moniem Strothers as the gunman through additional video footage. A detective said Strothers was known for multiple previous investigations, primarily in the Hazelwood neighborhood. Strothers is facing multiple charges including criminal homicide and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Looking for more news in your area | Subscribe to the WTAE YouTube Channel
