A recently approved federal spending bill includes more than 2.5 million dollars for fire service projects across Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional District.
Nearly one-million dollars will help with construction of a new fire station in North East.
Funding is designated for departments in Greenfield Township and Crawford County.
The Greenfield Township Volunteer Department will receive $975,000 to construct a new station.
The current station built in the 1940’s, no longer meets modern safety and operational needs.
The new facility is expected to improve response operations and provide safer access for emergency vehicles.
They hope to begin construction on the project in the spring.
Greenfield will keep the current station for fundraising purposes.
The West Mead #1 Volunteer Fire Company in Meadville has been awarded over $400,000 to replace a 30-year-old pumper/tanker.
