READING, Pa. – The annual Reading Jewish Film Series kicked off Tuesday night.

Movie-goers filed into the Boscov Theater for a one-night-only screening of “Bad Shabbos.” The comedy follows a couple preparing to introduce their parents for the first time.

Director and writer, Daniel Robbins, was on hand for a question and answer session following the movie. He said the film was inspired by family comedies from the early 2000s, but it also touches on a culture not usually featured on the big screen.

“We really wanted to show people who take their faith seriously and engage with the secular world,” Robbins said. “Make a movie that is somewhat pro-faith and also a funny comedy.”

If you missed Tuesday night’s screening, you can find “Bad Shabbos” on Netflix.

The film series continues next month on Dec. 2 with “Charles Grodin: Rebel with a Cause.”
