A 77-year-old Bensalem Township man and two pets were found dead Tuesday in a home.

Firefighters and police responded to the 3000 block of Gilbert Drive at 1:52 p.m. for a house fire report, according to a press release from Bensalem Township Fire Rescue.

As they arrived, crews found no visible fire or smoke, but they noted dark soot on the interiors of the windows, officials said.

Firefighters entered the home through the front door and located the resident, Allan Schoppy, 77, deceased in a living room chair, officials said.

A dog and a cat were also found deceased inside the home, according to a statement.

Fire investigators determined the blaze had self-extinguished before their arrival and appeared to have happened sometime overnight.

The cause of the fatal blaze remains under investigation, but officials said it “does not appear suspicious.”
