ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A longstanding Lehigh Valley meat market and deli will close its doors later this month.

Allentown’s Karl Ehmer Quality Meats, which sells deli and specialty sandwiches and salad, will hold its last day of business on Nov. 29 at 1645 Union Blvd. in Allentown, according to a post on the business’ Facebook page.

In September, the Allentown shop announced that the business was for sale as owner Leo Osanitsch Jr. plans to retire on Nov. 29.

It also announced that it still plans to offer its quality products at local events and festivals.

Karl Ehmer Quality Meats was a vendor at ArtsQuest’s Oktoberfest event earlier this fall.

Earlier this fall, Karl Ehmer served up its bratwurst, knockwurst and other tasty items at Celtic Fest and Oktoberfest in Bethlehem.

Currently, Karl Ehmer is a food vendor at ArtsQuest’s annual Christkindlmarkt, an expansive holiday market at the SteelStacks campus in south Bethlehem.

In its most recent Facebook announcement on Wednesday, Karl Ehmer noted that all inventory is first come first serve, while supplies last, and all orders should be picked up by Nov. 22.

“Stop by to wish Leo a much deserved retirement,” the online post continues.

Leo Osanitsch Sr. opened the shop with his wife, Lina, and sons, Fred and Leo Jr., in 1975, according to the business’ website.

Leo Osanitsch Jr. continues to lead the business today.

“The decision is bittersweet though it is time to enjoy a well deserved and long overdue retirement,” the September announcement reads. “… We’d like to thank our community and staff for their loyalty over the years.”

Wednesday’s social media post announcing Nov. 29 as the business’ last day of business garnered several comments, primarily from longtime customers extending warm wishes to Osanitsch Jr.
