ALLENTOWN, Pa. – On N. 6th Street in Allentown, Jordan Park is a skateboarder’s dream.

“We have one of the best skateparks in Pennsylvania right here in Allentown now,” said Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk.

On Saturday, phase 2 of the park’s renovation was unveiled with a ribbon cutting.

“It took a lot of hard work, a lot of people from the community made this happen. It took over many, many years so it’s cool to see it all come together,” said Colin Yoo, who helped make the park renovation possible.

Organizers said it took about 10 years to make this dream a reality. Hard work that Tuerk believes was worth it.

“We invest in places that have a strong community foundation and there’s no stronger community than the skateboarding community and their commitment to taking care of this place,” said Tuerk.

Tuerk said he too once loved to skateboard. “I never had anything like this as a kid,” he said. “To see all these young people coming out and enjoying this is really fantastic.”

Organizers hope this skatepark is more than just a “place to go” and creates something bigger. “Unity, unity, communication and good vibes,” said Juan Carlos-Escudero, who also helped make the park possible.

Yoo said, “It’s going to be a fixture for sure, and maybe we can make another one somewhere in Allentown.”
