For the first time ever the Joe Moore Award that honors a legend makes it to the city that shaped him.
Dozens of community members filled Brewery Union Station on Tuesday Nov. 18 as the Joe Moore Award returned home to Erie for the first time.
It’s the first time the trophy has ever been in Erie, where legendary offensive line coach Joe Moore started his career, widely considered one of the greatest to ever teach the position.
Stevie Blackman and Doug Favin, two former athletes who suited up for Coach Moore during his undefeated stretch at McDowell, players who say his lessons still guide them to this day.
For the younger offensive linemen who look up to him, this homecoming felt like meeting a hero they never had the chance to play for.
Whether you’re an offensive player in the 1960s or an offensive coach in 2025, Joe Moore will continue to be a legend in the sport of football.
On Dec. 11, the Joe Moore Foundation will choose a college football team that represents the Joe Moore Award, and within the next couple of days, Logistics Plus will ship it to that college.
