As the holiday season approaches, the Community Blood Bank (CBB) is urging local residents to donate blood during one of the most challenging collection weeks of the year. To show appreciation, CBB will host a special gift card giveaway for donors during Thanksgiving week.
From Saturday, Nov. 22 through Friday, Nov. 28, all presenting donors will receive a $15 gift card to either Country Fair or Giant Eagle. The incentive aims to encourage donations during a time when travel, holiday schedules, and cold weather often strain the blood supply.
To provide more opportunities, the Erie Donor Center will offer extended hours, opening Sunday, Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The center will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
“Maintaining a steady supply takes the help of dedicated donors,” said Megan Solensky, Community Relations Specialist at CBB. “This week puts real pressure on the blood supply, so we’re opening on Sunday to give donors one more opportunity at a time when it’s really needed.”
Appointments are encouraged but not required. Walk-ins are welcome as space allows.
