The grand opening of an Aldi store on Banksville Road has sparked enthusiasm among locals, with more developments planned for the area.More than 100 people waited patiently for hours for the Aldi to open. “This is actually on my bucket list. To go to all the grand openings. I had to switch shifts at work because I was like, this is like a big deal,” said customer Iliana Razo, from Pittsburgh. The location was chosen to provide more shopping options for residents, said Kevin Ely, the divisional vice president for Aldi. “This particular location was an area where we recognized that there were a lot of customers who were not being served. We do have a couple other locations nearby in Baldwin and Carnegie that many of our customers shop at. But this really filled a void in this particular neighborhood to be able to get more of our customers, our everyday low prices.” But that is not the only new development in the area. In addition to Aldi, a closed Rite Aid next door is set to be transformed into a Sheetz, marking the first Sheetz within city limits since the 1990s. “Having, like, bigger stores like Aldi and Sheetz opening and kind of like, creating staples is so nice to have,” said customer Jackie Geyer, from Pittsburgh. The developments are revitalizing this main artery in the Pittsburgh area.”It’s nice to see Banksville becoming a life of the Pittsburgh city in itself, because everybody knows Banksville Road, and it’s going to hit up Eat’n Park and stop at Aldi and, you know, go to the Sheetz. So it’s really nice to see,” Razo said.A projected start date for Sheetz construction has not been officially announced.
