Santa Claus is coming to Scranton. The jolly man in red will visit people of all ages Saturday for the 32nd Santa Parade, which will step off at 9:15 a.m. Here is what to expect for this year’s parade.
Parade route and access
The parade starts at 9:15 a.m. and finishes at noon. It steps off from the corner of Biden Street and Franklin Avenue, proceeds up Biden Street, turns left onto North Washington Avenue, right onto Linden Street, and finishes on Adams Avenue at Courthouse Square.
Santa will be available for photos at the end of the parade.
It will be broadcast live on WNEP-TV. Updates are posted on Facebook.
Parking restriction
The Scranton Police Department announced roads will be closed between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m., and parking on certain streets will be strictly prohibited; violators will be towed at the owner’s expense.
The closed roads will be:
• The 100 and 200 blocks of Franklin Avenue
• The 100 and 200 blocks of Mifflin Avenue
• The 100 through 600 blocks of Biden Street
• The 500 and 600 blocks of Linden Street
• The 100 and 200 blocks of Adams Avenue
• The 200 block of North Washington Avenue
• Career Link parking lot
Partly sunny weather
The weather is expected to smile on this year’s paradegoers with a predicted high of 45 degrees midday, with partly sunny weather.
And although that temperature might be higher than other years, it’s still low enough to redden little ears and make exposed skin uncomfortable.
So, don’t forget to wear a warm coat, together with hats and gloves. And, if you’re still cold, there will be plenty of chances to buy hot cocoa or a steaming cup of coffee.
Family-friendly market
The holiday version of the Scranton Public Market, in the Marketplace at Steamtown, Lackawanna Avenue, will coincide with the end of the parade. The family-friendly market runs from noon to 5 p.m. It will feature live music and more than 50 vendors, including food and local art.
