As Jo-Dan Buick GMC, a Downvalley car dealership, continues to grow, Danny Limongelli, president of Jo-Dan Motors of Moosic, purchased property across the street to accommodate extra vehicles.

Jo-Dan Motors of Moosic LLC acquired the former Trotters Motel and Travel Inn property, 4217 Birney Ave. — which spans 1.75 acres — from Parmar LLC for $825,000, according to a deed recorded Nov. 5 in Lackawanna County.

Limongelli noted that increased business at the Buick dealership along Birney Avenue led to the decision to buy additional land. He plans to demolish the hotel.

“We’re expanding and keep getting bigger year-after-year,” Limongelli said. “There has been 40% growth year-after-year with Buicks. It’s basically for inventory to be put over there for storage. The intention is to level the building. It’s been an eyesore; I’ve been staring at it for almost seven years.”

Limongelli added that borough officials expressed approval of the project during a recent visit to the dealership.

“They were all thankful that we’re actually doing something with that property,” he said. “The police used to stake out the place just because of the criminal activity that was going on.”

Limongelli expects demolition to occur in about a year.

“Right now, we’re just using it for unloading vehicles that come in,” he said. “We’ll probably put vehicles over there now, but we also want to start cleaning up the area as much as we could.”

The project’s cost remains unclear as Limongelli awaits estimates, he said.

Moosic Mayor Bob Bennie praised Jo-Dan’s commitment to the community and said he looks forward to continued success for the dealership.

“I think it’s a great development,” he said. “I appreciate Jo-Dan Motors taking that positive step in the borough. They’re a great corporate neighbor and partner, and we’re glad to see them making the investment in Moosic and staying and growing in Moosic.”
