READING, Pa. – Downed utility lines turned into an early dismissal for students at one local school today.
Northwest Middle School in Reading was closed today due to power issues.
A message on the school district’s website states that downed power lines in the area have affected the school’s electricity, and as a result, the school will be closed today Friday, November 21. The school will reopen on Tuesday, December 2 as students are off next week for Thanksgiving break.

District officials say Northwest Middle is the only school affected by the outage.
Utility crews arrived on scene around 8 a.m. to assess the damage. There is no word at this time when power will be fully restored.
Met-Ed reported a few hundred customers in the area without power. Officials have not yet made public what caused the poles to be toppled.
