On Monday night, we heard from community members who are against the proposal. Thursday night, we heard from school board members on why they voted in favor of it.

A new sports complex may soon be coming to Northwestern Senior High School.

School board members explained that the dollar amount needed for the upgrades is the most affordable option available.

On Monday night Nov. 17 at the Northwestern School District meeting, some community members expressed frustration over the district spending more than seven million dollars on a new sports complex.

However, school board members said they’ve done their due diligence and reduced the cost after receiving an initial proposal between 12 and 15 million dollars.

The board secured another proposal, bringing the cost down to $7.75 million, which will cover the necessary renovations.

Both board members believe this is the best option for taxpayers and, more importantly, for everyone who will use the complex.

The board voted 5-4 to move forward with the plan. However, some newly elected board members have stated they are against the proposal.
