BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Law enforcement officials are urging local college students to be careful behind the wheel when traveling during Thanksgiving break.

Members of the Lehigh Valley DUI-Highway Safety Task Force were at Moravian University in Bethlehem on Friday, hosting their annual holiday road safety event.

Students got to experience the dangers of drinking and driving by simulating field sobriety tests, and taking part in distracted and impaired driving simulators.

“We can’t control how the student drives in the simulator, only they can control how they drive, so if they crash, that’s on them. But we built real-life consequences into the simulator, so it’ll show what it might cost for a crash,” said Bill McQuilken, chairman of the Lehigh Valley DUI Highway Safety Task Force.

Officials say the Thanksgiving holiday period is the deadliest in the year due to a high number of alcohol-related crashes.
