COPLAY, Pa. – If you can’t resist the lure of a legendary Geakers taco, you’re going to be very interested in what’s coming to a small Lehigh County borough in the new year.

The Geake family is announcing a new partnership with the American Club of Coplay (ACC). Geakers will run a new location out of the ACC social hall and bar at 300 Cherry Street.

“It’s a place we want to be,” said Jared Geake, who runs the family business with his parents, Martha and Kevin, along with his wife, Katie. “It’s right in the middle of where we’re the busiest in the summertime with our food truck. Northampton, Whitehall, Schnecksville, those areas are where we usually do the best. So to open up a location smack dab in the middle there, it was a no brainer.”

The menu will be very similar to what Geakers already offers at its existing eateries in Bethlehem Township and the Lehigh Valley Zoo, with the addition of pizza and wings. “That’s a staple at a bar. That’s one of the things they asked us if we could do and, yeah, we can figure that out,” Jared Geake said.

The restaurant is expected to open early in the new year; hours are still being determined, but they will most likely mirror those of the social club. An ACC membership won’t be required to dine at the on-site Geakers, but anyone wanting to buy alcoholic beverages at the bar will need one. The rule won’t apply to soft drinks and other non-alcoholic beverages.

There’s also news to report about Geakers’ landmark Bethlehem Township taco stand: it’s no longer on the market. Geakers first listed the bright orange food stand at 3531 Freemansburg Avenue back in February, as Martha and Kevin Geake looked to scale back a bit. “We want to be able to enjoy our life a little more,” Martha Geake previously told 69 News.

There was no rush to part ways with the property. The family always intended to keep the spot open while the search for a buyer was underway. The sale would have included just the business, and not the Geakers name or recipes, which may have made it a hard sell. “So we actually decided, we’re going to take it back off the market, and we’re going to keep it the way it is,” said Jared Geake, who added that the family has “good helpers” to work with his parents in running the spot.

Hungry customers have been flocking to the Freemansburg Avenue eatery for some 25 years, chowing down on tacos, milkshakes, steak sandwiches, sides, and other Geakers specialties. At one time, Geakers also had operations in Wind Gap and Nazareth.

Geakers also has two food trucks in addition to the stand at the Lehigh Valley Zoo in North Whitehall Township, which opened in 2020.

Once the zoo location closes for the winter, the family can turn its attention to the new venture in Coplay. “It’s just going to be a great partnership,” Jared Geake said.
