Erie County Technical School received a grant that will help the production and installation of solar panels that will help the community.
Erie County Technical School Is Going Solar After Receiving a Major Grant. The school will install a 1,500-kilowatt solar array thanks to a $400,000 grant from Pennsylvania’s Solar for Schools Program.
Students will assist in constructing the solar panels, which will be built on 10 acres behind the Skills Center.
This project is expected to save taxpayers $15,000 per month, reduce energy consumption, ease the burden on local electrical grids, and significantly cut carbon emissions to net zero. The Solar for Schools grant will also provide a hands-on learning lab for students.
In addition to monthly savings, the project will reduce carbon emissions by 50,000 pounds over 30 years.
Construction is scheduled to break ground this spring, with completion targeted for the start of the next school year.
Local legislators say the project is a win for education, the environment, and the community.
