State Rep. Manny Guzman wants to make sure people in Reading have a happy holiday season.

That’s why the Democrat hosted his fifth annual Thanksgiving Resource Fair on Friday, an event designed to support local families and connect them with state and federal assistance programs.

The fair, which was held in Concilio Pentecostal El Lugar De Refugio Inc. church’s parking lot in the 200 block of South Ninth Street, included the distribution of a combined 1,000 turkeys, pork shoulder and roasted half ducks.

Guzman’s team also provided information on the state’s property tax and rent rebate programs, job opportunities, updates on nutrition and utility assistance programs, PennDOT services and more.

“One of the most valuable aspects of the event is hearing directly from constituents,” Guzman said in a statement announcing the event. “I look forward to answering questions and listening to the concerns of both long-time residents and new families in the district.”
