An Allentown man who admitted to shaking his 3-month-old son in 2012, causing serious injuries, now faces murder charges after the boy died last year.
The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday that they had filed third-degree murder charges against Kyle Hinkle, 38, who was arrested at his workplace in Allentown by Bensalem Township police with assistance from Allentown police.
According the Bucks County DA, on Oct. 12, 2012, Hinkle’s son was diagnosed by doctors at a Bucks County hospital with bleeding in the brain and retinal hemorrhages, which they suspected were the result of severe child abuse. A CAT scan revealed new and old injuries in various stages of healing.
The DA’s office said Hinkle admitted he shook the infant multiple times that morning because the child would not stop crying. He was charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and simple assault. Hinkle pleaded guilty to those charges and was sentenced to two years in county jail.
On Aug. 14, 2024, Bensalem police were notified by Pennsylvania State Police that the boy, now 11, had died, and an autopsy determined his death was caused by complications of blunt force trauma to the head and neck resulting from the 2012 abuse.
Hinkle is being held in the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of 10% of $2 million bail.
