A recent hit and run incident involving two pedestrians. Police have a suspect wanted for these crimes.

Erie police continue to look for the suspect who hit three pedestrians Friday night when he turned north onto State Street from 11th Street.

Investigators say the vehicle involved is a 2007 black Chevrolet Equinox with a temporary Ohio registration of T894705. The vehicle is registered to 23-year-old Davine Warren of Erie.

Police call Warren a “person of interest,” in the hit and run accident. After the driver hit two female pedestrians crossing State Street in the crosswalk, one 28, the other 23 and 8 months pregnant, investigators say he stopped initially and got out of his vehicle.

The driver then entered his vehicle and began to drive north on State Street, fleeing the scene. That’s when a 3rd pedestrian became involved. Police say a 26 year old man ran over, and grabbed the driver’s door in an attempt to keep the driver from leaving. He was dragged, fell and was run over by the vehicle as well. And as the driver fled, he ran over the initial victims again.

Deputy Chief Rick Lorah was stunned by the chain of events. “What’s crazy to me to think that—you know, you hit people and don’t stop immediately and try to render aid. The vehicle is a deadly weapon–you strike two people and then to strike somebody else and run somebody over trying to leave the scene — is just, obviously this individual needs to be taken into custody and we need to get him off the streets.

The Deputy Chief says the victims injuries are serious, so a quick response was important. “Our officers were on scene very quickly, emergency medical was on scene very quickly, they were able to ascertain that the child had a heart beat so that’s good and obviously had them taken down to the hospital you know immediately.”

Again, the black Equinox is registered to Davine Warren of Erie. Police described him as a black male with short dread locks, 6’1”, 180 pounds. He is already wanted on an active warrant for a firearms violation through the Erie Police Department. Deputy Chief Lorah said now police have another reason to want him off the street. “It’s not someone that we want on the street and we’re going to do everything we can to get them put away,” Lorah said.
