Cypress House Bakery board members recently met with representatives from their affiliate, Homeboy Industries of Los Angeles, during Homeboy’s visit to the University of Scranton. Homeboy is the largest gang rehabilitation and reentry program in the world. Like Homeboy, Cypress House Bakery is a nonprofit dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by formerly incarcerated individuals by providing meaningful employment, job training and a clear pathway to long-term stability and self-sufficiency. An open house will be held in conjunction with First Friday Scranton on Dec. 5 from 5 to 9 p.m. at St. Luke’s Church, 232 Wyoming Ave., Scranton. Visitors can view the newly completed kitchen where trainees will soon begin learning the skills of the bakery trade. The event will include cookies, coffee and conversation, along with holiday music and artwork created by currently incarcerated individuals.
