Erie Catholic Diocese
The Diocese of Erie will be investing $1.2 million into The Triangle of Hope.
It is a collaborative initiative that will transform the former St. Paul and Sacred Heart school properties into outreach centers.
Sacred Heart Parish is donating two properties to two local nonprofits.
The former St. Paul School, along with the adjacent parking lot and green space, have been transferred to the Mazzini Charitable Foundation.
It will be used as a hub for meal service and skills development.
The former Sacred Heart School has been transferred to the Mercy Center For Women.
The building will be used for transitional apartments and programming for women and children in crisis.
In addition, the Washington Square Apartments will be used for permanent housing for homeless men.
“This is what renewal looks like in the life of the Catholic Church,” Bishop Lawrence Persico said. “We are honoring the faith of those who came before us by ensuring their legacy continues through new works of mercy that meet today’s needs. Rooted in hope, this moment invites renewed trust in God’s providence and a shared vision for a more faithful and connected future.”
A public presentation will be held Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph/Bread of Life Parish at 147 West 24th St. in Erie.
