EASTON, Pa. – UGI Utilities, Inc. began a natural gas main replacement project Oct.1 in Easton.

The system upgrades are part of UGI’s commitment to provide safe and reliable service, according to a news release from UGI.

The work is also an opportunity for some homes and businesses along the project route to convert to natural gas.

Officials say underground work will happen on the following streets:

West Wilkes Barre Street between Packer Street and Iron Street

Packer Street between Glendon Avenue and Hoyt Street

McKeen Street between West Wilkes Barre Street and Hoyt Street

Construction is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drivers, residents, and business owners may experience road closures, detours, and parking restrictions, according to the release.

UGI says there will be some interruptions to natural gas service. This will require them to have access to properties to inspect and relight equipment.

The installation of the new natural gas main is expected to be completed by the end of December, officials say.

The completion date may change due to weather and working conditions. Final paving and restoration will occur later.
