An Easton man will spend up to 10 years in prison for a DUI crash earlier this year that killed his passenger.
Randy Donato, 32, was sentenced Tuesday to four to 10 years in prison for the Jan. 5 crash that killed Nicole Guzman, 35, in Bethlehem Township, according to Northampton County District Attorney Stephen Baratta. Donato pleaded guilty in September to homicide by vehicle while DUI and DUI.
Township police said Donato had a blood alcohol of 0.208%, more than twice the legal threshold for drunk driving.
He crashed his car into a tree line on the north side of William Penn Highway. Guzman, of Easton, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the DA said in a news release. Donato was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Investigators found a flask on Donato, as well as two beer caps and a bottle of beer inside his vehicle, the release states.
Donato was charged in February and has been in Northampton County Prison since his arrest.
