One person died and two others were injured after a vehicle hit a utility pole Monday night in Lehigh County.
A 21-year-old Allentown man died Tuesday from his injuries sustained in the crash on Flint Hill Road near Forest Drive in Upper Saucon Township the night before, Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said Wednesday.
The vehicle was traveling eastbound about 9:15 p.m. when it lost traction, spun sideways and hit a utility pole. A nearby resident reported the crash.
The man who died, a front-seat passenger, was trapped between the vehicle and the pole. Firefighters removed him from the vehicle, and he was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill. He died about 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Buglio on Wednesday said he is not releasing the victim’s name to allow his family to mourn privately.
A 20-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were also injured and taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest by ambulance, police said.
The vehicle was wrapped around the pole, according to an Upper Saucon Township police news release. Investigators found tire marks leading between 50 and 60 feet into the area of the crash. Police said the vehicle’s tires were in poor condition.
Flint Hill Road was closed for hours while police investigated the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
