Reading FC announced the signing of the former Lincoln City skipper in June on a four year contract until the summer of 2029.

The centre-back was brought in to bolster Reading’s backline following the return of Tyler Bindon to his parent club Nottingham Forrest, and the speculated transfer of Amadou Mbengue to QPR.

Noel Hunt, at the time of the signing, said: “Paudie is a fantastic lad and will be a big character in the dressing room, he’s exactly the type of person we want at our Football Club for our rebuild.

“We’ve had our eyes on him for a while, I’ve been a big admirer of his for some time. I knew about him when he was in the Leeds setup, and I can’t wait to work with him on a day to day basis.”

Paudie suffered an injury in pre-season against Portsmouth back in July, and would not play under Hunt until October in a 1-1 draw against Exeter. Though it would be one of four games he would play for the former Reading forward.

After a poor run of results which left Reading 19th in League One with only 14 points in 15 games, Hunt was sacked.

When asked about playing for Hunt, Paudie said: “I was gutted, to be honest, from a personal point of view. I felt like I would have liked to play a lot more games when he came in. There was a lot of faith with the contract I was handed.

“And it didn’t work out the way I would have wanted. I rushed myself back and tried to give it as good as I could for a few games. But, I’ve spoke to him and he’s a really tough guy, as everyone around this club knows.

“I wish him nothing but the best.”
