U. SAUCON TWP., Pa. – The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office says a 21-year-old Allentown man is dead after a crash in Upper Saucon Township Monday night.
The man was a front-seat passenger in a vehicle that hit a utility pole, according to a news release from the coroner’s office.
Emergency responders were sent to a single-vehicle crash on Flint Hill Road, just east of the intersection with Forest Drive, Monday night at approximately 9:15 p.m.
The cause of death is being withheld pending further investigation by the coroner’s office, according to the news release.
The coroner’s office said the man has been identified and next of kin have been notified.
“However, due to the sudden and unexpected nature of this tragedy, I am not releasing the individual’s name at this time to allow the family the opportunity to mourn privately,” county Coroner Daniel Buglio said.
Two other people were injured in the crash. Police say a 20-year-old man sustained a head injury. A woman, 22, sustained an undetermined injury.
They were taken to the hospital.
The vehicle was traveling eastbound at approximately 30 mph when the tires—described by the operator as being in “poor condition”—lost traction, according to a news release from the Upper Saucon Township Police Department.
Police said the car spun sideways and collided with a utility pole on the opposite side of the roadway.
Investigators saw that the vehicle’s tires were found to be significantly worn, township police said. The car, which sustained disabling damage after wrapping around the utility pole, was removed by tow truck, according to officials.
The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, the Upper Saucon Township Police Department, and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office are jointly investigating the incident.
