The Heritage of Green Hills is hosting two holiday-themed open houses of its spectacular train room.
The public is invited to enjoy the intricate multi-train and multi-track layout created and curated by the senior living community’s residents on Dec.13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Dec. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The train room display is an ever-evolving labor of love featuring some of the area’s favorite landmarks, including the Reading Fairgrounds Racetrack, the Reading Pagoda, the William Penn Memorial Fire Tower and Pomeroy’s Department Store.
Several different sizes of trains are featured, with G, O, S, N, and even teeny Z scale models incorporated in the large collection.
In addition to the main display, there’s a side room dedicated to an impressive HO scale setup, as well.
Elves will serve cocoa and holiday treats at the family-friendly event on both dates. A special holiday market featuring local vendors will be held in conjunction with the Dec. 13 train room open house.
“Visiting the Heritage train room is a holiday tradition for many families, and this year, we’re looking forward to seeing familiar faces and new ones, too!” said Doug Walther, the community’s executive director.
The Heritage of Green Hills is located at 200 Tranquility Lane, Cumru Township, Berks County.
