ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Bethlehem Lutheran Church opened its doors Thursday night for a Thanksgiving celebration to help its community.
Families, longtime members and people experiencing homelessness all came together for a night of worship, reflection and a hot holiday meal.
The sanctuary filled with music and prayers centered on gratitude as guests gathered for a service focused on slowing down and recognizing blessings during a busy holiday season.
Organizers say the church wanted the night to feel welcoming to anyone who needed it, especially individuals who may not have a place to go for Thanksgiving.

Volunteers served warm meals in the fellowship hall, offering a wide variety of food for whoever may decide to show up.
“We want everyone who comes through our doors to feel supported and welcomed,” said the head pastor, “Thanksgiving is about recognizing what we have and giving back where we can and that is what we’re doing tonight.”
The meal brought together people from all walks of life. Church leaders say that events like this help reflect their mission to make sure no one in the Rockford area faces the holidays without support, companionship, and a warm plate of food.
