PHILADELPHIA — Three Philadelphia men have been federally charged in connection with nearly a dozen carjackings, authorities said.
Rasheen Harvey-Fields, 18, Tavon Fry, 20, and Saair Steele, 21, all of Philadelphia, were charged by superseding indictment with conspiring to commit, and committing, multiple carjackings, and related firearms offenses.
Harvey-Fields and Fry appeared in federal court in Philadelphia this week, and Steele made his initial appearance last week. All three are in federal custody.
The three men and others conspired to steal at gunpoint numerous vehicles, often using the vehicles they carjacked to commit other crimes, including robbery, aggravated assault, and more carjackings, authorities said.
These alleged incident occurred between June 25 and July 11, according to authorities.
In some cases, the men used the pretense of buying or selling marijuana to set up the carjackings, authorities said. In other instances, they targeted people who were getting out of their vehicles, according to authorities.

Harvey-Fields, Fry, and Steele face a maximum possible sentence of life imprisonment.
