RIGHT NOW, THERE’S NO WORD ON SUSPECTS. STAY WITH US AS WE WORK TO LEARN MORE FOR YOU. NOW TO WASHINGTON COUNTY, WHERE MULTIPLE CRASHES ON THANKSGIVING NIGHT LEFT ONE PERSON DEAD. TRAFFIC WAS STALLED FOR HOURS AFTER A PILEUPS BETWEEN I-70 AND I-79. REPORTER JORDAN CIOPPA JOINS US FROM SOUTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP. WITH WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR ABOUT THIS FATAL CRASH. TRAFFIC IS MOVING AGAIN ON I-70 HERE IN WASHINGTON COUNTY. SOME PEOPLE WERE STUCK IN THEIR CARS FOR NEARLY TWO HOURS, WHILE OTHERS TOOK ALTERNATE ROUTES TO AVOID THE BACKUP DRIVERS IN WASHINGTON COUNTY RAN INTO MAJOR ISSUES ON THE ROAD DUE TO ICY CONDITIONS. THANKSGIVING NIGHT, IT WAS WALL TO WALL NOT MOVING AT ALL. IT WAS TOTALLY STOPPED AND I WAS EXPECTING I WAS GOING TO HIT IT ON MY WAY BACK. ACCORDING TO PENNSYLVANIA STATE POLICE, TWO SERIOUS CRASHES OCCURRED ON I-70 AND I-79. TROOPERS SAY THE SOUTH JUNCTION SKYBRIDGE, I-79 NORTH, WAS CLOSED BECAUSE OF A FATAL COLLISION. FIRST RESPONDERS IN SOUTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP SAY A DOG WAS ALSO KILLED IN THE CRASH, INVOLVING 13 CARS. IT CAN HAPPEN THAT FAST. TERRIBLE TRAGEDIES HAPPEN WHEN THE ROADS ARE ICY AND THERE’S ACCIDENTS. VIDEO SHOT BY PITTSBURGH’S ACTION NEWS FOUR SHOWS A TRACTOR TRAILER JACKKNIFED BETWEEN EXIT 15 AND 16 ON I-70. TRAFFIC WAS BACKED UP FOR MILES. I SPOKE TO A COUPLE OVER THE PHONE WHILE THEY WAITED IN THE TRAFFIC ON THE WESTBOUND SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE, ABOUT 12 OR SO VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME. THERE. IT LOOKED TO BE 3 TO 5 VEHICLES THAT WERE DEFINITELY INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. ALSO, ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD. SO EASTBOUND, WHEN WE PULLED UP TO THE STOPPED TRAFFIC, THERE WAS A CAR, TWO CARS, I THINK IN THE MIDDLE. THE MEDIAN DITCH. YEAH. AND THEN THERE’S A SEMI THAT JACKKNIFED THE PASCOES WERE STUCK FOR ROUGHLY AN HOUR AND A HALF BEFORE TRAFFIC STARTED MOVING AGAIN. THEY SAY IT ALL HAPPENED SO FAST, AND THEY’RE THANKFUL THIS HOLIDAY TO BE OKAY. IT COULD HAVE BEEN ANYBODY. SOUTH STRABANE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAYS MOST AREAS OF I70 AND I-79 HAVE BEEN TREATED AND ARE SAFE NOW. STATE POLICE SAY THEY ALSO RESPONDED TO A TWO VEHICLE CRASH ON I-79 SOUTH AT THE WASHINGTON AND ALLEGHENY COUNTY LINE, COVERING WASHINGTON COUNTY IN WASHINGTON. I’M JORDAN CIOPPA, PITTSBURGH’S ACTION NEWS FOUR. JORDAN. THANK YOU. ANOTHER BIG STORY WE’RE FOLLOWING THIS MORNING. ONE OF THE NATIONAL GUARD SOLDIERS SHOT IN D.C. WEDNESDAY HAS NOW DIED, ACCORDING TO PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP. HE SAYS THE OTHER VICTIM IS STILL FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE. THE CHARGES AGAINST THE ALLEGED SHOOTER ARE EXPECTED TO BE UPGRADED TO FIRST DEGREE MURDER. THE FBI IS NOW SAYING THE SHOOTING IS ALSO BEING INVESTIGATED AS AN ACT OF TERRORISM. OUR WASHINGTON CORRESPONDENT, JACKIE DEFUSCO JOINS US WITH MORE REACTION FROM THE PRESIDENT IN THE FINAL HOURS OF THANKSGIVING. PRESIDENT TRUMP, WE’RE TOLD, MADE WHAT WAS NO DOUBT A HEARTBREAKING PHONE CALL TO THE PARENTS OF SARA BECKSTROM, THAT 20 YEAR-OLD, NATIONAL GUARD MEMBER FROM WEST VIRGINIA. THE PRESIDENT HIMSELF ANNOUNCED HER DEATH JUST LAST NIGHT. TAKE A LISTEN. IT’S JUST HAPPENED. SHE WAS SAVAGELY ATTACKED. SHE’S DEAD. SHE’S NOT WITH US. INCREDIBLE PERSON. OUTSTANDING IN EVERY SINGLE WAY. IN EVERY DEPARTMENT. THAT’S HORRIBLE. IN A POST THURSDAY, ATTORNEY GENERAL PAM BONDI PLEDGED JUSTICE FOR SARA AND ADDED, QUOTE, THE DEATH PENALTY IS BACK. POLICE SAY BECKSTROM AND 24 YEAR OLD STAFF SERGEANT ANDREW WOLF WERE SHOT ON WEDNESDAY WHILE PATROLLING NEAR THE WHITE HOUSE. AUTHORITIES ARE CALLING IT A TARGETED ATTACK BUT HAVE NOT REVEALED A MOTIVE. THE ALLEGED SHOOTER, WHO IS IN CUSTODY, HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS RAHMANULLAH LOCK AND WALL, A 29 YEAR OLD AFGHAN NATIONAL. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS REPORTS THAT HE WAS APPROVED FOR ASYLUM UNDER THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION, BUT OFFICIALS SAY HE FIRST ENTERED THE COUNTRY THROUGH A BIDEN ADMINISTRATION RESETTLEMENT PROGRAM AFTER THE U.S. WITHDREW FROM THE WAR. WE’RE ALSO LEARNING, BEFORE ARRIVING IN AMERICA, LOCK AND WALL WORKED WITH THE CIA. ACCORDING TO THE AGENCY’S DIRECTOR, HE WAS A MEMBER OF A PARTNER FORCE IN AFGHANISTAN, BUT THE RELATIONSHIP ENDED SHORTLY FOLLOWING THE EVACUATION OF U.S. SERVICE MEMBERS. ASKED ABOUT THAT CIA CONNECTION LAST NIGHT, PRESIDENT TRUMP SAID THAT THE ALLEGED SHOOTER, QUOTE, WENT NUTS AND CONTINUED TO INSIST THAT HE CAME INTO THE COUNTRY. UNVETTED. HOWEVER, SUPPORTERS OF AFGHAN RESETTLEMENT SAY THAT THAT PROCESS ALREADY COMES WITH SIGNIFICANT SECURITY SCREENING. IN WASHINGTON, I’M JACKIE DEFUSCO. PITTSBURGH’S ACTION NEWS FOUR. JACKIE, THANK YOU. AND WE ARE STILL MONITORING THE CONDITION OF THE OTHER NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERS SHOT WEDNESDAY. AND CLOSELY FOLLOWING THIS DEVELOPING SITUATION.
