Blustery & brisk Black Friday; tracking 2 winter storms Sunday & Tuesday for south-central Pennsylvania
The unseasonably chilly weather continues into weekend through the first week of December. We’re watching a couple opportunities of unsettled weather in the extended forecast, including chances for rain/snow next week.
CHALLENGING. IT’S GUSTY AND COLD OUTSIDE AS WE GO THROUGH OUR BLACK FRIDAY GUSTS UP TO 40MPH AND WINDCHILLS GETTING INTO THE 20S. AS WE GET INTO THE REST OF THIS AFTERNOON. THAT’S WHY WE HAVE IT AS AN IMPACT DAY FOR YOUR BLACK FRIDAY. NOW GETTING INTO SATURDAY, IT’S COLD, BUT NOT AS WINDY, NOT AS GUSTY AS IT IS FOR TODAY, BUT WE’RE STILL GOING TO BE SEEING A COLD SATURDAY OR FIRST HALF OF THE WEEKEND. BUT THEN THE SECOND HALF OF THE WEEKEND, SUNDAY MORNING, LOOKING AT A WINTRY MIX, POSSIBLE OF SOME SNOW AND SOME RAIN. AND BY THE TIME WE GET TO THE AFTERNOON AND THE EVENING, LOOKING AT A TRANSITION TO ALL RAIN, BY THE TIME WE MAKE IT TO SUNDAY EVENING. BUT WE’VE MADE THAT AN IMPACT DAY BECAUSE WE STILL WE’RE STILL SEEING FOLKS STARTING TO DRIVE HOME FROM THEIR FROM THANKSGIVING TRAVEL. SO KEEP THAT IN MIND IF YOU HAPPEN TO KNOW ANYBODY OR IF YOU YOURSELVES ARE GOING TO BE TRAVELING AT ALL FOR SUNDAY, YOU’RE GOING TO WANT TO KEEP THAT IN MIND. SO FOR TODAY, IMPACT DAY FOR THE WIND CHILLS AND THE WINDY CONDITIONS COULD SEE A FEW SNOW SHOWERS. NORTHWEST TOWARDS MIFFLIN AND JUNIATA COUNTIES TODAY, WHERE THAT’S WHERE THE HIGHEST ELEVATIONS ARE AT 36 TO 40 DEGREES FOR THIS AFTERNOON. TONIGHT, MOSTLY CLEAR WITH CHILLS DOWN TO THE LOW 20S. ONCE AGAIN DOWN INTO THE UPPER 20S. WILL GO FOR OUR AIR TEMPERATURES THEN FOR TOMORROW. MOSTLY SUNNY, NOT AS WINDY. STILL COLD. LIKE I MENTIONED FOR SATURDAY 38 TO 42 DEGREES WITH NORTHWESTERLY 5 TO 15 MILE PER HOUR BREEZE. BUT LOOK AT THE GUSTS FOR THE DAY TODAY. ONCE WE GET CLOSER TO 1:00 IN THE AFTERNOON AND 3:00 IN THE AFTERNOON, STILL LOOKING AT GUSTS OF UP TO ABOUT 40MPH, THEY’LL BEGIN TO DWINDLE OR THEY’LL BEGIN TO RELAX SLIGHTLY AS WE GET INTO THE EVENING. BUT YOU CAN STILL SEE GUSTS ARE ELEVATED INTO THE UPPER 20S RANGE, AND YOU CAN SEE THE FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES DOWN INTO THE INTO THE UPPER 20S FOR THIS AFTERNOON, GETTING DOWN TO THE LOW 20S. BY THE TIME WE MAKE IT TO TONIGHT. SO THAT’S WHY WE HAVE IT AS AN IMPACT DAY FROM 7 A.M. TO 7 P.M. FOR THOSE GUSTS GETTING TO 40MPH, THE FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES AS WE GO THROUGH THE REST OF THIS AFTERNOON, AND ALSO THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS OF POWER OUTAGES, SOME TREE LIMBS DOWN ON THE ROADS. AND YOU’RE GOING TO WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU SECURE ANY CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS. TEMPERATURES INTO THE 30S RIGHT NOW. AND IN TERMS OF THOSE WINDS BETWEEN, I’D SAY 20 AND 30MPH SUSTAINED, YOU CAN SEE STORM TEAM LIVE RADAR NETWORK SEEING SOME LAKE ENHANCED PRECIPITATION TOWARDS MIFFLIN, JUNIATA AND PERRY COUNTIES. A LITTLE BIT IN FRANKLIN COUNTY RIGHT NOW. BUT ZOOMING OUT THE PICTURE, THERE IS A SNOW SQUALL WARNING. NOT FOR OUR AREA ALONG I-80 TOWARDS PENFIELD AND CLEARFIELD IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY, YOU CAN SEE SOME LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNINGS AT THIS TIME. FOR NORTHWESTERN PORTIONS OF THE COMMONWEALTH. NOT EXPECTING A SIGNIFICANT LAKE EFFECT SNOW FOR OUR AREA, WE’RE STILL UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF HIGH PRESSURE THAT’S GOING TO KEEP US MAINLY SUNNY TO PARTLY SUNNY AS WE GET INTO THE REST OF TODAY. GETTING INTO THE FIRST HALF OF THE WEEKEND, YOU CAN SEE MOSTLY SUNNY CONDITIONS AS HIGH PRESSURE STARTS TO MOVE OVERHEAD. THAT’S GOING TO HELP RELAX OUR WINDS. BUT THEN HERE COMES SUNDAY. THE CHANCE FOR THAT WINTRY MIX OF SOME SNOW AND ALSO SOME RAIN THAT’S GOING TO START TO COME THROUGH AS OUR NEXT COLD FRONT STARTS TO SWEEP IN. NOW SUNDAY IS AN IMPACT DAY. HERE’S A QUICK TIMING, QUICK EXPLAINER FOR YOU FOR SUNDAY MORNING. THAT WINTRY MIX IT’S GOING TO BE ALLOWING FOR SLIPPERY TRAVEL TO DEVELOP WITH THOSE TEMPERATURES NEAR FREEZING SUNDAY AFTERNOON. WINTRY MIX TO RAIN TO TO RAIN SHOWERS. BUT WE ARE LOOKING AT SOME POTENTIAL SNOW AT THE HIGHEST ELEVATIONS. BUT ONCE WE GET TO SUNDAY EVENING, THAT’S WHEN IT’S GOING TO TRANSITION TO ALL RAIN. NOW, LOOKING AHEAD INTO NEXT WEEK, ANOTHER IMPACT DAY FOR YOUR TUESDAY, WE’RE LOOKING AT THE CHANCE OF SOME SNOW SHOWERS POTENTIALLY, AND ALSO SOME RAIN. THAT’S SOMETHING THAT WE’RE GOING TO BE IRONING OUT AS WE GET INTO THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS WEDN

IMPACT DAY FRIDAY:If you’re out shopping on Friday, getting your Christmas tree, or trying to hang outdoor lights, it will be gusty and cold! Sustained west-northwesterly winds will be blowing at 15-25 mph, with gusts that could top 40 mph. Highs will stay in the upper 30s, and wind chills will be in the teens in the morning and 20s in the afternoon.Cold weather continues Saturday, but winds quickly diminish by afternoon, as high pressure builds overhead. Highs will hover near 40 degrees, with wind chills in the 30s.IMPACT DAY SUNDAY:Precipitation chances return Sunday morning, as low pressure approaches Pennsylvania. Initially, precipitation may start as a snow/sleet/rain mix before switching to rain. Temperatures will rise throughout the day. Please use caution when traveling early Sunday as there may be some slick spots, especially at higher elevations. Minor accumulation is possible at higher elevations. Any snowfall that falls in the valleys will likely melt as temperatures increase in the afternoon. Highs will be near 40 degrees in the afternoon, and rain will taper toward evening. To start the work week, it’ll be brisk & cold to start with temperatures reaching the low 40s. Winds will be slightly elevated through the first half of the day, then relax towards evening. Sky cover will increase heading into the evening and overnight into Tuesday, ahead of the next storm system we’re tracking.TUESDAY WINTER STORM POTENTIAL:After a dry Monday, a rain/snow mix is becoming more likely on Tuesday as a winter storm moves across the Mid-Atlantic. The track of the storm will determine where the rain/snow line sets up and where accumulating snow occurs. It is still too early for snow totals as models continue to be very changeable, but plowable snow is a possibility for some. Stay tuned for updates over the weekend. All of next week will feature below-average temperatures for early December. Highs will hover near 40 degrees most days, with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s.Have a great Black Friday!~ Ryan
