When individuals seeking assistance from the Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge and the Naaman Network in dealing with their addiction, they often arrive with no personal belongings.
Discovery Federal Credit Union recently concluded a coat drive to help those individuals. The goal of the drive was to raise awareness about the Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge and the Naaman Network, and to bring warmth to those clients.
The coats offer those at Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge some comfort as they work toward their recovery, Discovery said in a release.
Discovery members and employees donated warm coats and winter gear for the residents of the treatment centers. The drive was so successful this year, according to the credit union, that it was extended by a week, allowing for more donations. This year, Discovery FCU collected more than 50 coats.
“As a credit union that prides itself on meeting people where they are, this coat drive offers us the ability to reach out to a community that may be overlooked,” Michele Smith, president/CEO of Discovery Federal Credit Union, said in a statement. “It also allows us to make a direct and lasting impact locally while also reaching out to every part of the state.”

The Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge is a Berks County-based treatment program started in 1962, according to information on its website, to help young people and adults get help with addiction.
The Naaman Network is an integrated network of providers offering residential and outpatient programs for those looking to overcome substance use disorders.
“We are so thankful for the support of our members and the community for stepping up and donating coats,” Smith said.
Founded in 1959, Discovery Federal Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution headquartered in Spring Township, serving members throughout Berks and beyond. In August, the credit union changed its charter, to allow it to serve underserved individuals in surrounding areas.
