DANVILLE, Pa. — At Cole’s Hardware in Danville, an aisle dedicated to winter weather items is starting to dwindle down. Before the flakes start flying, shovels are flying off the shelves all to prepare for what Mother Nature’s going to bring on Tuesday.
“We’re moving through a bunch of stuff, you get anywhere from three to five inches from one to four, it’s all—it drives business here big time,” said John Azaltovic, Cole’s Hardware Store Manager.
Customers have been keeping the front end of the store busy as employees were loading up cars with ice melt. Along with shovels, sleds were also a hot item.
“All of the ice scrapers have been hit pretty hard, but a lot of the calcium chloride, you know, the Quick Joe shakers, that’s all of the really good premium ice melts that we have, but we also do have the regular basic rock salts,” said Azaltovic.
Here at Cole’s Hardware, they’ve already gone through hundreds of pounds of ice melt and expect more customers to come throughout the day.
“We had one customer buy thirty bags, and another customer buy, I think they bought 20 bags, but a lot of like one’s, and two’s, you know, just going out the door left and right,” said Azaltovic.
Cole’s Hardware Store Manager John Azaltovic tells us the first major snowfall is the Super Bowl of snowstorms.
“You know everybody’s getting the ice melts versus like grocery stores are getting hit with the eggs and milk and all of that stuff,” said Azaltovic.
Employees also tell Newswatch 16 local boroughs and contractors come in buying items to prepare for the first major snowfall, as well as buying skids of ice melt at a time.
