Most of the area is expected to receive 2–5 inches Tuesday morning.
DOVER, Pa. — The first major snowfall of the winter is on the way for south central Pennsylvania, and both municipalities and residents are getting ready for what’s expected to arrive Tuesday.
In York County, Dover Township officials say they’re fully prepared to treat and clear the roads. The township plans to bring out its full fleet of heavy machinery, including 23 trucks that will handle salting and plowing throughout the storm.
Dover Public Works Director Chris Hamme said crews will begin their day early.
“At five o’clock we’ll come in, there’ll be 11 units out on the road, the superintendent will be here in his command post,” Hamme said. “And then when conditions are deemed for plowing, there’ll be 23 units out on the road plowing. And then those 11 that salt will salt behind as they plow.”
Residents are also preparing, and local hardware stores are seeing early demand for winter supplies.
Pinchot’s General Store in Warrington Township has stocked up on essentials as customers brace for an earlier-than-usual start to the snow season.
“We have people calling asking what we have in stock,” said owner Jim Wiley. “I told them we have snow shovels. We got your wood pellets in case you need heat. They’ve been through it enough times, but you always get that one person new to the area that doesn’t have it, so we’re here to help them when they need it.”
Forecasters expect two to five inches of snow for most of the region, prompting preparations across municipalities and county agencies.
York County Emergency Management officials say they’re ready to step in if townships need help during the storm.
Public Information Officer Ted Czech said the county will stay in close contact with local emergency coordinators throughout the weather event.
“We’re in contact with those EMCs so that if they’re in need of anything—equipment, personnel—then we can supply that to them,” Czech said. “It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out, but we’re certainly going to do everything we can to assist everyone else in getting through it.”
