A 19-year-old Olyphant man faces charges after police said he inappropriately touched a 6-year-old girl numerous times.
Olyphant police were notified Oct. 2 of a possible sexual assault involving a 6-year-old female as the victim, officers said.
During the investigation, the victim’s mother told authorities her daughter said a male — identified as Jonathan Davis — inappropriately touched her on Oct. 1, according to a criminal complaint.
The Times-Tribune does not identify victims of sexual abuse.
The girl added that the same male had shown her pictures of naked people on his cellphone in the past, officers said.
Olyphant Police Chief James DeVoe seized Davis’ cellphone as part of the investigation, police said.
Additionally, during a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Scranton on Oct. 2, the victim told a program manager that Davis put his hands in her pants, and called her “honey bear” and “sweetie,” according to the criminal complaint.
The victim also stated Davis would have her take pictures of him on her cellphone, police said.
During an interview at police headquarters on Oct. 8, Davis denied ever touching the girl’s private parts and said he never showed her pictures of naked adults on his phone, officers said
Davis told investigators he would “roughhouse” with the girl and may have accidentally grazed her, but never purposely touched her in the areas she reported, police said.
He also denied ever being alone with the victim in his bedroom area and said he never asked her to take pictures of him, according to the criminal complaint.
However, the girl’s parents told officers they viewed photos of Davis on her phone and sent two of them to Olyphant police, on Nov. 19, which appeared to have been taken by another person, investigators said.
Police charged Davis with indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age and corruption of minors. As of Monday, Davis remains in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 9 at 10 a.m.
