From The LGBT Center of Greater Reading

The LGBT Center of Greater Reading is proud to host Rooted in Resilience, an inspiring evening dedicated to strengthening community understanding, connection, and acceptance. The event will take place on Friday, Dec. 19, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 415 Franklin St., Reading.

The evening’s keynote speaker will be Erica Deuso, the first openly transgender person to be elected mayor in the state of Pennsylvania. Her story represents courage, authenticity, and the power of community support, making her voice especially meaningful at a time when transgender and LGBTQ+ visibility and safety remain at the forefront of national conversation.

With the event theme “Building Community Acceptance Through Shared Work and Shared Humanity,” Rooted in Resilience aims to foster empathy, dialogue, and shared commitment to equity. The program will include keynote remarks, meaningful conversation, community engagement, and light refreshments.

Tickets are available for $40.00 per person, with all proceeds supporting the critical work of The LGBT Center of Greater Reading, including counseling services, youth programs, training, advocacy, and community outreach.

“The progress we make as a community depends on our willingness to show up, not only for celebration but for learning,” said Laura Biancone, Executive Director of The LGBT Center of Greater Reading. “This event is designed to strengthen the foundation of acceptance through real connection and shared humanity.”

A QR code for registration is available on the event flyer, and tickets may also be reserved online through The LGBT Center of Greater Reading’s event portal.
