Less than an inch of snow is now expected Tuesday in parts of the Lehigh Valley as a storm makes its way through the area.
Snow started to fall across the region before 8 a.m., creating slick conditions on area roads. However, the storm is falling short of earlier expectations for a more significant impact.
Initially, forecasters said between 2 and 4 inches of snow could fall, however they said late Monday that with the precipitation starting later and temperatures trending warmer, snowfall totals would be lower.
In its latest forecast Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, said less than an inch of snow is now expected in southern portion of the Lehigh Valley. Between 1 and 3 inches of snow could fall in the northern parts of the region, closer to the Poconos.
Forecasters said precipitation in Carbon and Monroe counties will likely be all snow. Between 4 and 6 inches of snow is expected there.
The earlier predictions led school districts throughout the Lehigh Valley to close for a snow day or virtual learning.
Rain & snow has begun in a few places this morning. Precip along the I-95 corridor may start off as a light snow/mix, but quickly change over to rain this morning. Wintry precip may impact the morning commute along the I-78 corridor and north/west. https://t.co/JiD09By93X pic.twitter.com/lqudYP7gwq
