Series History

There is a 15 game history between the Eagles and the Dragons, and the first in over a decade, the two teams will tipoff against each other. The series that stretches back to 1983 has seen American win 10 of those 15 contests, with a 4-3 advantage on the road. Most recently, AU won 47-41, in December of 2013.
A familiar face will be seen on the court from the Dragons roster, as former Eagle Molly Lavin, (2022-24), has been featuring on the hardwood for Drexel. Lavin, now a senior, is working back from injury in the offseason, and has been performing well with an average of 3.6 rebounds and 4.0 points per game.

Tipping Off

The Eagles are in a rebuilding year and have yet to find their second win of the season after opening the season with a victory over Delaware State, carrying a 1-5 record to Philadelphia after dropping their most recent contest to Yale, 63-54, last week.
In the game against Yale, sophomore Elizabeth Archer led offensively for American with 12 points, while defensively she had a career-high eight rebounds, AU’s second highest achiever of the game. She played a career-high 30 minutes of the contest.
Three other Eagles finished in double-digit scoring position: Madisyn Moore-Nicholson, Charlotte Tuhy, and Molly Driscoll each had 10 points in the game.
On the glass, it was Tuhy, once again, who took control for American. The freshman topped all players on the hardwood with 14 rebounds and earned her fourth double-double of the season and second in a row. The last time the Eagles had a player claim three consecutive double-doubles was Cecily Carl in 2019.
Driscoll has been prolific for the Eagles so far this season, even grinding to a new career high of 29 points at La Salle (11/22/25), which was the most points scored by an Eagles since Jade Edwards dropped 31 at Lehigh in January of 2021. Driscoll matched her career high of five three pointers in a single contest, the most of any AU player since she last hit five triples against Winthrop in November of 2024.
Driscoll is averaging 17.2 ppg so far this season to lead the squad and is third in the Patriot League behind Holy Cross’ Meg Calahan and Navy’s Zanai Barnett-Gay who carries a 17.8 and 17.7 ppg averages respectively. Driscoll is also first in the league in free throw percentage, shooting 82.2 percent from the line, sinking 15 of her 17 attempts so far this season.
Tuhy leads the Eagles and the league in rebounding with her 11.3 rebounds per game average. The first year is averaging 9.8 ppg so far this year, second on the team in scoring.

Scouting the Dragons

Drexel, after opening the season on a four-game win streak, has suffered three losses in a row, all on the road, and is looking to get back into the win column with the home crowd behind them on Wednesday when hosting American.
Most recently, the Dragons suffered a loss to a Big Five school, Saint Joseph’s, on Saturday, Nov. 29, falling 57-55 in a hotly and closely contested crosstown matchup. The Dragons were leading for a majority of the contest, until the final two minutes when Saint Joseph’s took the lead for the first time in the game and held on to claim the win as it came down to free throws.
In the game against the Hawks, the Dragons received 20-point performances from both Amaris Baker (22 pts) and Laine McGurk (20 pts). Both Baker and McGurk went the distance, each playing a full 40 minute game, and Baker contributed six rebounds to Dragons’ effort.
Baker (20.3 ppg) and McGurk (15.7 ppg) lead the Dragons and are second and third in the league in scoring, respectively. Baker is bringing a .419 overall field goal percentage and a .450 three-point field goal percentage into the game, having sunk 18 triples this year across seven games. McGurk is going shot-for-shot with Baker, shooting .462 overall and .448 from three-point range.
Deja Evans leads for the Dragons on the glass this year, averaging 6.1 rebounds per game while also having 11 blocks. Evans is also averaging 8.7 ppg and shooting .417 from the floor.
Drexel is fourth in the CAA in scoring, averaging 65.0 ppg, and is third in overall field goal percentage, carrying a .412 average into Wednesday’s contest. The Dragons also lead the CAA in distance shooting, going .396 as a collective from three-point range.
